On To the Governor’s Desk!

Super exciting news! HB 1239 has passed both the House and Senate and is headed to the Governor’s desk.

The bill has gone through several rounds of changes since it was introduced, mostly to hone the complaint reporting process. Here is the final version of the bill as passed by the legislature.

It’s been a whirlwind these past two months. We are so grateful to all of you who have testified, written your legislators, signed in pro and helped spread the word. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you!

We hope our next update will be to share that our bill has become a law!

Senate Committee to Vote

Thank you to everyone who signed in PRO for yesterday’s public hearing in the Senate’s K-12 Education Committee!

Next step is for the committee to take “executive action” tomorrow, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m. That means they will likely vote on whether the bill should pass out of committee. You can watch it live here.

Bill Passes House!

Exciting news! HB 1239 passed the House yesterday by a vote of 92-5.

That’s a huge bipartisan majority showing their support for this bill.

The version of the bill that the House approved is called the Engrossed Fourth Substitute.

Bill Passes in House Committee

HB 1239 passed out of the House Education Committee!

There is now a new version of the bill called the Third Substitute, which slightly amends the original bill.

The bill’s next step is the House Appropriations Committee.

HB 1239 is scheduled for a public hearing in the House Education Committee today at 1:30 p.m. Watch the hearing live online.

The House Education Committee will then meet in the coming week or two in an executive session (not open to public comment) to discuss the bill. Legislators can propose amendments to be voted on by the members of the committee.

Our goal right now is to have the bill pass out of committee.
